HDMI cables have become a very popular household cord. They are used for a variety of purposes, although their general job is the same no matter what kind you get. Essentially they carry digital media such as video and audio from one device to another with HD quality. They have managed to replace the multiple older cords you once had to use to complete the same task and are used with most modern technology. There are few different types of HDMI cables and they all work in slightly different ways. We will go over the four of them and the differences in their functionality.
Standard HDMI Without Ethernet
This is the most basic form of HDMI that is available. They are simply used for transferring digital signals at a normal speed and are great for basic HD televisions. They do their job and they do it well, although they do not allow for an ethernet connection. Chances are you already have one of these in your home and you shouldn’t need to replace it unless you want ethernet capabilities.
Standard HDMI With Ethernet
These cables are basically the same as the regular standard cables, but they come with an extra feature. They allow your device that is plugged into an ethernet cable to transfer that ethernet connection to your television. This is great for streaming movies or playing online video games, because it gives you a hard wired internet connection without needing a second ethernet cord.
Highspeed With and Without Ethernet
Now that we understand the difference between cables with and without ethernet capabilities, lets take a look at the highspeed HDMI cable functions. Highspeed HDMI cables meet the standards necessary for 4K and HDR televisions. If you have a 4K TV and want to play games or watch movies in 4K, you will need one of these. They also come with the choice of ethernet capability depending on your preferences.
Standard and highspeed HDMI cables are pretty much interchangeable. The only difference you really need to focus on is the ethernet difference, because buying the wrong cable for that purpose can stop your from getting the effect you desire.
